Copenhagen, June 2025 NYP Online Platform Strategy Meeting This in-person [...]

  • In June, we hosted our first in-person Book Clubs β€” one in Stockholm and one in Copenhagen
β€” starting with Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. It’s a short and simple story, yet it
quietly invites reflection. These gatherings were part of our effort to create space where we, as
young people, could pause, connect, and explore ideas through literature outside of academic
    or formal settings.
During the sessions, we shared a set of open-ended discussion questions. They touched on
themes like individuality, potential, and the meaning of freedom.

    Themes We Touched On

A recurring idea in the book is the tension between what we must do and what we’re meant to
    do.

    β€œAll gulls fly,”

    someone said,

β€œbut for Jonathan, it wasn’t just about finding food. It became
something else, a way to understand himself.”

That reflection opened up a conversation about how we relate to routine and expectation, and how meaning can sometimes grow from the smallest actions. We also talked about what it costs to choose a different path. Jonathan is cast out by his community, but eventually returns β€” not with pride, but perhaps with quiet care. We shared thoughts on stepping outside of what’s expected, and what it might mean to return. The discussion led to the idea of potential, whether it’s something fixed, or something that grows
    when we act on it.
The book ends with a line that stayed with us:

β€œThe race to learn had begun.”

It doesn’t offer a clear conclusion, but rather a beginning. For us, it was a reminder that being in motion -mentally or emotionally- can be its own kind of learning.

    A Few Reflections

Sessions took place during a busy period, but preparing for and being part of the Book Clubs brought a different kind of focus. Even in the middle of a packed week, it reminded us that not everything we do is just about getting things done. Some actions add something else; a feeling of purpose, a bit of colour, a quiet shift in how the week feels.
In both Stockholm and Copenhagen, we gathered not just to talk about a book, but to listen, to reflect, and to share thoughts in a way that felt open and unforced. The book was just the starting point, what made the conversations meaningful was the way we brought our own questions and experiences into the room.
This was the beginning of something we hope will continue to grow. We’re looking forward to what the next Book Clubs bring β€” and to finding more small moments of meaning, together, in the middle of everything else.

What’s Happening …

On April 27th, the Nordic Youth Platform hosted an inspiring and interactive Career Seminar
focused on a crucial question:

β€œHow do you choose a career that truly fits your personality, interests, and strengths?”

This online event, held via Zoom, brought together more than 80 young people from across the
Nordic region and globe to reflect on what it really means to make informed, meaningful career
decisions in today’s complex world.

πŸ’‘ Highlights from the Seminar

Our featured guest speaker, John Fatih Chetkinβ€”a professional coach and
entrepreneurβ€”guided us through key questions that many of us often wrestle with

    • Should your career align with your personality, or is it all about skills?
    • What is your biggest challenge when it comes to choosing a career path?
    • How can you start exploring careers that actually energize and fulfill you?

Through real-life examples, reflective prompts, and practical strategies, John helped participants
understand how self-awareness can be a powerful compass when making long-term career
choices.

A Space for Reflection and Growth

The session wasn’t just a lectureβ€”it was a conversation. Attendees shared their thoughts in the
chat and engaged in Q&A, making the space feel dynamic and supportive. Many participants
left with a clearer understanding of their values and how those values can influence career
direction.
We were especially excited to see how openly participants engaged with the key takeaway:
πŸ‘‰ You don’t have to β€œhave it all figured out” to move forwardβ€”you just need to start with
knowing yourself.

On May 31st, the Nordic Youth Platform hosted another highly relevant and practical Career
Seminar, this time focusing on a topic that every job seeker faces at some point:

β€œHow do you write a CV and cover letter that actually gets noticed?”

Led by Ferdi Gumuskaya, an HR Analytics Senior Specialist with years of experience in
recruitment and screening, this online seminar offered participants the tools and insider tips to
confidently approach the job application process.

πŸ“ What We Covered

Ferdi walked us through what makes an application truly stand outβ€”from the perspective of the
professionals reading them. Some of the key takeaways included:

  • How to write a powerful cover letter that doesn’t repeat your CV, but rather tells your
    story and showcases your motivation.
  • What HR professionals are actually looking for when they screen applications.
  • Common mistakes applicants makeβ€”and how to avoid them.

Many participants were surprised to learn how small changes in tone, structure, or language can
significantly improve the impact of a CV or cover letter. There was also a live Q&A and real CV
feedback, where attendees got to ask their burning questions directly to our speaker.

Participant Feedback

Attendees shared that the session helped them feel more confident about upcoming job or
internship applications. Some even began reworking their CVs and cover letters right after the
event using the tips they had just learned!

Moving Forward

At Nordic Youth Platform, we believe that preparing for the job market isn’t just about ticking
boxesβ€”it’s about understanding how to communicate your unique value. This seminar was part
of our broader effort to support young people in building purposeful, informed career paths.
Stay tuned for upcoming workshops and mentorship opportunities in the next months. Until
then, keep refining your storyβ€”and don’t forget: your application is your first impression. Make it
count.
